GPR Used To Locate Underground Voids

Ground Penetrating Radar Systems was recently called to a project at the Southwire electrical wire factory in Villa Rica, Georgia. The scope of work was to scan a section of the factory floor to search for underground voids. GPRS was called after a set of steel posts and barricades were installed on the factory floor and a large amount of water was found in the floors. It was thought that a recently installed sewer pipe that had a 1” hole was the reason behind the water, but Southwire wanted to be sure there was not any other areas of concern.

GPRS, LLC. was able to determine that the void in question was much larger than previously suspected and was a preexisting fault that was already in place when Southwire took over the factory. GPRS project manager Patrick Moulin was able to determine that multiple voids were spread over nearly a 100 yard area with one void stretching at least 30’ across itself. GPR is an accurate and effective way of locating underground utility lines, underground storage tanks, and voids.
